Biggest suprise? Likely Bayonetta. Although the developers track record is nothing to snuff at, as these guys did afterall make Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry and Phoenix Wright for Capcom whilst they worked there, there was such a heavy weight of anticipation placed on it that none of us waiting for it expected it to fall through. But then, the demo came out and it was practically an infection. Amazing playability, great caricacture of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Godhand and various other triple As that Hideki worked on prior to joining Sega.
Dissapointment? FFXIII. Knowing japanese enough to play this game by ear even if my kana and kanji are too lacking to really know textual games didn't hinder my progress here, as verbal dexterity and fluency is all you really need to know. There are maps of this game circulating the japanese internet about how its just tunnel after tunnel, and its full of horrendous angst on part of Hope towards Snow, as well as magical character personality changes. Highly dissapointing.
